Jacarandas are possibly my favourite tree. I also love the story that the reason for the proliferation of jacarandas across the lower north shore of Sydney, Kirribilli in particular, is that a jacaranda was planted each time a baby was born at the local hospitals. True or otherwise, I like the idea, and when my daughter was born, I recall driving to pick up some bits from home and chose to take McDougall Street at 6am or so on a beautiful sunny morning with the jacarandas lining the street in full bloom – a very happy memory.
With this happy memory in mind, I collected a jacaranda seed pod from a tree on Kirribilli Avenue and am now endeavouring to cultivate a little jacaranda tree that will remain potted until we buy a forever home where it can be properly planted for my daughter.
I shall post the odd update, but current status of the seed pod…. much growing to do….
